Close enough to feel at home
A child sits close to an adult in an open landscape. In other photographs, children lean toward one another or gather inside a home. The settings change, but the gestures of closeness remain at the centre of this edition. A hand, a shared seat or a smile can give a photograph its quiet sense of welcome.
Care in everyday gestures
Care is not always a dramatic event. It can appear in the way someone holds a small child, makes space beside them or returns their attention. These images allow us to pause with those familiar gestures. They do not explain every relationship in the frame, and we have not supplied names or family histories that have not been confirmed.
Children within a community
Children’s lives unfold among other people: adults, companions and those who share the spaces of a day. Supporting children thoughtfully means remembering that wider setting. We want this journal to reflect people together, with their dignity intact, rather than separating a child from the relationships that make everyday life meaningful.
From an intention to an account
Potala Karma commits US$1 from every item sold to charitable initiatives supporting children in impoverished mountain communities in Tibet. That promise is distinct from the scenes recorded here. When giving records are available, they will tell the story of the support itself. For now, this edition stays with something the photographs can show directly: the tenderness of being close, and the attention people offer one another.
