An open book, an open possibility
A young reader looks up from an open book. The photograph holds two forms of attention at once: the pages in hand and the world beyond them. We do not know the lesson, the reader’s daily routine or what happened after the shutter closed. What is visible is a moment of engagement, held with a lively expression.
More than one way to grow
Alongside the reading portrait, a group of children and adults faces the camera outdoors. Placing these photographs together makes room for a broad understanding of growing up. Learning happens with books, but a child’s world also includes the people around them, the places they know and the questions that arise in an ordinary day.
Curiosity deserves room
We believe children should have opportunities to learn, explore and develop their interests. That belief is an aspiration, not a claim about a particular school or programme. This edition does not identify the reader’s circumstances or describe an educational project. It invites a quieter reflection on the attention and possibilities that every child deserves.
Keeping the promise concrete
Our giving commitment is US$1 from every Potala Karma item sold toward charitable initiatives supporting children in impoverished mountain communities in Tibet. Any future account of books, learning materials or other assistance will depend on documented activity, rather than being inferred from these portraits. The images open a conversation about possibility; responsible updates will show what practical support has actually taken place.
