LIGHT · OFFERING · REMEMBRANCE
A small flame, tended with care.

In Tibetan Buddhist practice, light is offered as a devotional gesture. Preparing a vessel and tending a wick give that aspiration a visible form: a small act of care, made with attention.
The Jokhang Temple Monastery in Lhasa was founded in the seventh century. This chapter introduces lamp offering alongside that setting, while keeping the meaning of the gesture in view: light offered as an expression of devotion, rather than a promise of a particular worldly outcome.
A closer reading
The Jokhang belongs to the historic ensemble recognised by UNESCO alongside the Potala Palace and Norbulingka. Founded in the seventh century, its architecture brings together Tibetan Buddhist forms with influences from India, Nepal and China. Its halls, images and courtyards give the offering a wider setting than a flame alone can convey.
That history is the cultural setting of this chapter. The lamp footage introduces the work of preparing and tending lamps; it is not independently verified footage from the Jokhang.

A dedication can begin with a few carefully chosen words: a name remembered, gratitude expressed, or a wish held with compassion.
No. The Jokhang service is listed separately from the Luphuk service on Chakpori, also known as Yaowangshan, in Lhasa. Choose the location deliberately. Their packages, prices and completion descriptions are not interchangeable.
The Jokhang listing offers 108, 500 or 1,000 lamps at US$60, US$300 or US$600. It states four scheduled offering times each month, completion within 15 days, and a video featuring your name. The Luphuk listing has its own four packages, including 100 lamps at US$60 and 108 at US$65; it requests your name and wish and describes its own photo and video delivery. Read the selected service before ordering.
